Eugen Doga’s “Last Waltz” on earth: “Heaven is warmer now—master will sing his eternal music above”. Radio Moldova. 5.06.2025

Many people are gathering today to bid farewell to master Eugen Doga, bringing flowers and feeling deep sadness in their hearts. The master's lifeless body is currently resting in the large hall of the "Nicolae Sulac" National Palace, where the "In Memoriam Eugen Doga" ceremony and a mourning rally are taking place. Flowers were laid at the great composer's coffin, including tributes from the President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, and the Parliament Speaker, Igor Grosu.

"It’s difficult to express my feelings. Today, we bid farewell to the great composer, musician, and man, Eugen Doga. He will forever live on in my heart and in the hearts of our community. No matter where we go, we will always listen to Eugen Doga's music," said Nicolae Botgros, the conductor of the "Lăutarii" Folk Music Orchestra.

The commemorative program commenced at 08:00 with a divine service at the Church of "Saint Teodora de la Sihla" in Chișinău. From 10:00, the master’s lifeless body was displayed in the large hall of the "Nicolae Sulac" National Palace. The farewell procession is set for 12:50, and at 13:00, the funeral cortege will proceed to the Central Cemetery on Armenească Street, where the funeral ceremony will take place at 14:00.

Composer and academician Eugen Doga passed away on Tuesday, June 3, at 88.

On June 5, the day of master Eugen Doga's funeral, the Republic of Moldova declares a day of national mourning in honor of one of the most respected figures in Eastern European culture. State flags are lowered to half-mast throughout the day, and public institutions and citizens are encouraged to observe a moment of silence in memory of the master.

Eugen Doga was an emblematic figure in our music, with a career spanning over six decades. He composed film, ballet, choral, and instrumental music, gaining international recognition through his collaborations with director Emil Loteanu in films such as "The Fiddlers," "My Tender Beast," and "Maria, Mirabela."

UNESCO included the waltz from "My Tender Beast" on its list of musical masterpieces of the 20th century.

Eugen Doga is a source of pride for our country, and through his art, he will live on forever. This sentiment was expressed by those who gathered at the "Nicolae Sulac" National Palace to bid farewell to the great composer:

"He captured in his creations the most beautiful moments and qualities of our people, reflecting the love of life, our land, and our community."

"It is a deep sorrow in my heart. I have been away for 20 years, but I have always listened to Eugen Doga's music."

"I fondly remember the song from my childhood, 'Maria Mirabela.' I can imagine that from now on, it will be even more beautiful and warmer in heaven, because the master has ascended and will continue to sing his eternal music."

All those who knew Eugen Doga and cherish his music said their goodbyes to the backdrop of melodies performed by the Teleradio-Moldova Company Symphony Orchestra.
